Introduction Blog Post
Hello, everyone! Welcome to my website. This is where you can find all the work I do for my JMS 430 class, as well as past and future articles I've written, my resume, and ways to contact me. In the "My Work" tab, I have added a few of the articles I've written over the years. I worked for my community college's newspaper, called the LMC Experience, for two years. I wrote 25 different articles during my time on the staff there, writing on a wide variety of topics.

This class has been going pretty well so far. I like the labs that we do in class, as they are actually pretty fun to do, while still being informative. My favorite has to be the AI ones we've done, as they've helped me better recognize what AI pictures look like. For my story project, I think things will go relatively smooth. I am worried about if the sources I chose will respond to my requests for an interview because all but one of them aren't SDSU-related sources. I didn't bother considering Tony Hawk as one of my sources because, while he is the creator of the skateboarding organization I'm interested in for my story, the odds of him agreeing to do an interview for a student's story are probably very low. I guess it doesn't hurt to try, but I'm not going to get my hopes up.

I was extremely satisfied with the outcome of my final story project and think it is one of the best articles I've written. I've created about 30 articles so far and I had the most fun working on this story. Normally, I know a lot about the stories I intend to write about, but I went into this one mostly blind. I know very basic information about skateboarding culture and its history, but talking to people who grew up with skateboarding opened my eyes to the beauty of the sport. Without taking this class, I doubt I ever would've opened my mind to this world, which still has some untapped potential. The way that one of my interviewees, Patrick Simpson, spoke about how he used skateboarding as a way to escape from the dangers he faced growing up in Southeast San Diego was inspiring.
